A Touch of Fall: Burlap Wreaths!

Down in the deep south, we consider any temperature below 90 degrees cool weather.  Our week began with temperatures in the "cool" 70's and 80's!  Fall seemed to be just around the corner...well, almost!  

We were recently out of school for several days due to Hurricane Isaac.  I made good use of the days and began decorating our home for the upcoming season. Fall is my favorite time of year.  My love for this season began when we moved to Rockland, Maine.  My dad is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard.  We have been blessed to have lived in many beautiful locations around the world.  When I was three, my dad received orders to Puerto Rico.  I remember that everything on the island was lush and green.  Several years later, we were transferred to Maine.  Talk about a change in climates!  I recall traveling in our car down canopied roads ablaze with color.  The leaves had turned to gorgeous colors of golds, burnt orange, delicious hues of red, russet, and bronze.  I was enthralled.  So when August turns to September, I am ready to bring out reminders of this beautiful season.

This year I decided to make new front door wreaths.  Everyone is using burlap these days and I jumped aboard the burlap train!  I chose colors of brown, tan, and orange to make burlap rosettes of varying sizes.  Burlap, hot glue and a little patience is all you need.  I topped each with a fluffy burlap bow. Hope you like them! What is your favorite time of year?

    Love those wreaths and I especially love ours that you all gave us for Grandparents Day! Our front door looks great.

    Well done my new SEC friend! I jumped on the burlap wreath wagon last fall and I'm still loving mine! Last year it was on my door and this year it's on my mantle. Come Check it out. That cooler weather was just a teaser apparently - but hey, you can't squeeze oj in your birthday suit in November in Maine!

Quarantine Reno: The Butler's Pantry/Laundry Room

Good morning everyone! I wanted to share with you a major renovation which Mr. Still Woods and I accomplished during the quarantine. I have been feeling a huge push to simplify not only my life, but our home as well.  I started with reorganizing room by room and donating items we no longer use. After that was accomplished, I began thinking. My husband says that my thinking is always dangerous and usually means a lot of work for him! So let me tell you how this all started.  I have a large pantry in the kitchen with pull out drawers and deep shelves. While it holds tons of pantry items, I was always complaining because items tend to meander to the back of the shelves. Patriotic Tablescapes

I was perusing the internet for a little 4th of July tablescape inspiration.  Wow...are there some wonderful ideas for any Yankee Doodle Dandy table.  Let's take a look! I love the blog Between Naps on the Porch.  She has a gift for setting a beautiful table.  This one is set with solids of red, white, and blue.  The tall lanterns also lend a patriotic flair and really make the setting cozy. I love the entire setting in this photo from The Gathering of Friends.  The house and yard phtograph beautifully.  Those red chairs really pop! Looks like a great place to entertain and watch fireworks. Tampa Homebody has incorporated some of my favorite glassware into her table setting.  American Fostoria and blue Cape Cod glass make this a festive display.
