Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary! We were both born into career military families. We traveled the world before God ever put the two of us together. Even though HE was born in Augsburg, Germany four years before my own birth in Quincy, Fl, our destiny was established. It is amazing to me that God selected our two lives to be intertwined. We first met at a middle school on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was a new 8th grade science teacher, fresh out of college. HE was a football and basketball coach. I must admit that I wanted nothing to do with him! Don't get me wrong, HE was an intelligent, charming, and handsome man! I had heard a lot about him. In fact, when I was interviewed for my position, the principal asked if I was dating anyone. He knew of a young coach I should meet! At our wedding, our principal bragged that he had hired me for this young coach! Can't do that now a days! Why wouldn't I want to date this nice man? Well, my college years had been spent dating another young man and we parted ways for a variety of reasons after our senior year. I was finished with men, at least for awhile. My goal was to be an independent, young woman and I was eager to begin my career as a science educator. There was something so freeing about my decision to remain "dateless"! HE asked me out for several months before I finally accepted. HE was persistent, I will give him that. My mother was actually the one who urged me to at least go out with him once. I finally accepted and our first date was to "scout" a neighboring basketball team! HE had chosen well, as this was a safe and unassuming date! Afterwords, I found myself hoping that HE would ask me out again, maybe for a real date this time. HE did and four months later we were engaged. Ten months later, we were married! It was a shock for me to have fallen so totally in love with this man after just a few short months. What happened to my goal of working at least a couple of years before seriously dating someone? God had another plan for my life and that plan involved my wonderful husband. I love the way God works! Psalm 37:4 states,
"Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart". He truly has given me the desires of my heart and has blessed our 30 years together. I am anxious to see what the next 30 years will bring!

Happy anniversary!! Sweet story!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! I usually tell people that I am the only person I know that was hired so that a lonely coach would have a wife!
