A Vintage Christmas 2015

We love vintage and retro finds.  At Christmas, these items bring a touch of nostalgia to our homes.  Today I am sharing with you some of my vintage ornaments and decor.  Last year, I purchased a silver tree to remind me of the tree I had when I was little.  It's the perfect place to hold my vintage ornaments.  All I need now is a mini color wheel!  Remember those?  I have a few items which I've had since my first Christmas (1960). With a dad in the military and travels to many ports of call, I am surprised these delicate ornaments survived. Also on the tree are a few vintage Christmas cookie cutters. Let's take a peak at my treasures.  Be warned, these were all done with my trusty phone!
This is my favorite ornament.  The moon, stars, and Saturn always caught my attention as a child and still does.
Here is another one from my first Christmas tree.  I imagine it came from the same set as the astronomical one.  The colors are beautiful and the glitter adds a nice sparkle.
Lastly from my first Christmas tree is this blue bell.  I have added a few more bells to my collection, but have only found the red and green ones. Ha!  You can see my phone in the bell!
I picked up this ornament at an antique store last year.  It blends in nicely with the ones from my first Christmas tree.
My first Christmas stocking designed with a happy seal balancing a colorful ball is a treasure.
Nearby is a milk glass cake plate with a few of "my favorite things".  The Santa cup was a gift from my Aunt Mary in San Antonio, Texas.  While we were there one Christmas, she gave me and my sister Santa cups full of candy canes.  My sis lost hers so I found a replacement for her a couple of years ago.  The little elves are a recent vintage purchase.  They still have their original labels under their feet.  They look a little pensive, as if Santa scolded them!  I also have a favorite mini milk container and a candle from Aunt Mary.  A little snow for sparkle and they are all set!  I love the Christmas prayer cross stitch on the wall.  When I was pregnant with our last son, I was on complete bed rest.  I stitched these happy prayers and my hubby made the frames.  Special memories!
I recently ran across a few Christmas ads from the Saturday Evening Post.  I picked  a few up for two to three dollars each.   This vintage Kodak ad is from December 16, 1950.  An insert on the ad reads, "The look of a child on Christmas is more precious than any gift - keep it!"  So true!

    I have acquired several very old ornaments which I display separately from the tree. I picked up 2 of the same Santa cups at St. Vinnie's last week. Love your decorations.

    I'm loving your vintage touches! My house is adorned with classic and old fashioned Christmas with a little whimsy! It's fun that we can each decorate absolutely however suits our taste and it's all wonderful! Your home is always inspiring to visit on here:)

I had planned to share my new front door decor, but alas, like many residents of the MS Gulf Coast, all  loose outside objects have been secured as we await the arrival of Hurricane Isaac. Quarantine Reno: The Butler's Pantry/Laundry Room

Good morning everyone! I wanted to share with you a major renovation which Mr. Still Woods and I accomplished during the quarantine. I have been feeling a huge push to simplify not only my life, but our home as well.  I started with reorganizing room by room and donating items we no longer use. After that was accomplished, I began thinking. My husband says that my thinking is always dangerous and usually means a lot of work for him! So let me tell you how this all started.  I have a large pantry in the kitchen with pull out drawers and deep shelves. While it holds tons of pantry items, I was always complaining because items tend to meander to the back of the shelves. When you need a flashlight to see what's in your pantry, you know its too large.  So I decided that I wanted to relocate our pantry into a free standing, shallow unit.  We sat down and drew up a plan we were both happy with.  As with most plans, our plan got altered along the way.  What was to ...

Mississippi Spice Muffins for Busy Mornings!

Our family has always felt that it was important to eat together as a family as often as possible.  During the school week, this meant breakfast and supper.  During the weekend, it meant all three meals.  Mealtime is such a wonderful time to talk to your children and share their experiences of the day.  It also provides you an additional time to pray together as a family.  Many teachable moments occur during our family mealtimes.  I should emphasize that our mealtimes are spent at the table, not in front of the television.  Breakfast can be very hectic, so when my boys were little, I came up with a simple method to reduce any fussing about what we were going to eat.  They always knew that Monday was Muffin Monday , Tuesday was Toast Tuesday (cinnamon toast, cheese toast, peanut butter toast), Wednesday was Waffle Wednesday , Thursday was Thirsty Thursday (nutrient packet fruit smoothies) and Friday was Free Friday (anything goes!).
