Vintage Finds and a Perfect Visit

Hi friends! After many days of traveling, I am back home with some photos to share with you.  On September 15, we loaded up the car and began the long journey to see our son in Virginia.  It was a perfect visit!  The temperatures were unseasonably warm, but we didn't care a bit.  We were just grateful to spend time with our oldest child.  Family...it's what life is all about!

Of course, I had to visit a few of my favorite antique stores while in VA. I love this dining room set.  My son is in the market for a set and I think it would look great in his home!
I always stop at this booth and usually find a piece or two to add to my Fostoria collection.  She also has great Pyrex items.  I have one of the turquoise bowls.  Such a happy color! I just love her vintage inspired booth.
Another few booths.  Isn't the burplap wreath cute? I am not sure why, but I am drawn to conversation chairs.  I can just imagine a hard working housewife taking a break from her daily routine to have a phone chat with her closest friend!
The "Fall Gatherings" sign in my last post was made by the lady who has this booth.
Of course, it wasn't all antique shopping.  We ate at a delightful Italian restaurant Sunday afternoon.  Thought you might like a look at the yummiest part of the restaurant!
There is so much history in Virginia.  In the past six years since our son moved there, we have visited much of the state.  This trip we decided to explore the Northern Neck of Virginia.  We stopped in Reedville and walked the main street known as Millionaire's Row with it's impressive Victorian era mansions. Love this picture!  My son and I had just eaten some delicious crab cakes from a little shop along the Chesapeake Bay.  Wish I had one or two for supper tonight!
On the way back to Mississippi, we stopped and spent a few days in the Smoky Mountains.  This fall display was in one of my favorite places to eat and shop...The Apple Barn! I'll take one of everything, please!
It was a blessing to be able to visit our son and enjoy the incredible beauty of God's world! Other than window shopping, I did bring home several adorable vintage pumpkins and beautiful, large real pumpkins of different varieties.  I can't wait show you what I am doing with the real pumpkins! Have a wonderful week friends!

  1. What a nice trip and visit you had with your son. I love the photo of the two of you. You look alike. You are a lovely woman and don't look old enough to be his mother.

    1. I'm so glad you like the photos. Let me tell you, it was hard to sit looking at the dessert area while I was eating! My husband and I split a dessert and our son picked out the most luscious looking lemon layered sponge cake. My mouth is watering now. Somehow my morning coffee sitting right beside me is lacking!!
      Have a great day Cindy!

  4. What a wonderful time that must have been! I love browsing for antiques and vintage items too and I see many things in your photos that I would love to have, particularly some of the Pyrex. My mom had that agua pattern and whenever I see it, it brings sweet memories and warms my heart. I also have a warm spot in my heart for VA as well...we had a log cabin in mountains of southwest VA for 12 years and made many family memories there! What a sweet picture of you and your son too and what's not to love about the Smokies? I could get lost in that store! Lovely post...enjoy the rest of your week, Lynda!

    1. I just love Pyrex. I am always on the hunt for more of my pink Pyrex bowls. The aqua is a gorgeous color too. What a blessing to have had a cabin in VA for many years. Did you decide to sell the cabin? My mom and I have dreamed of having a cabin in the Smokies. It's not as far from here and just beautiful. My VA son lives out in the middle of nowhere, so we get to enjoy the beauty of that area when we visit. Have a great rest of the week!

    1. Good Morning Lisa!
I love the Apple Barn. The apple fritters in the restaurant are quite delicious. Enjoy your visit. Hopefully you will be able to see some fall foliage. They had quite a dry summer so I'm afraid that they will not have the autumn splendor they are known for. All in all though, it's a great place to visit!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I had planned to share my new front door decor, but alas, like many residents of the MS Gulf Coast, all  loose outside objects have been secured as we await the arrival of Hurricane Isaac. Instead, I thought I would share with you a set of my favorite dinnerware.  I began collecting Memory Lane ironstone many years ago, but my love of the pattern began when I was just a little girl.  My Grandma Mercer had one dinner plate.  I imagine that she picked it up either in a box of laundry soap or as a reward for shopping at the IGA of Chattahoochee, Florida.  I came to love her one plate.  My grandmother would make sure that my food was served on that plate no matter what other dinnerware pattern was set on her table!  When she passed away, I was blessed to receive her dining room set which included a lovely buffet with glass knobs along with the matching table and chairs.  I also received my Memory Lane plate. During my search for more pattern pieces, I found out that Memory Lane is consi

Fun Fall Door Decor

I am ready for the heat of summer to be over and the cool breezes of fall to head our way.  My sister called me the other day and said she wanted to pull out her autumn decorations and to that I say "Amen, Sista"! We both can't wait to say, "Happy Fall Ya'll"!! In the meantime, I need to update my fall door decor and have been looking for a few, fresh ideas.  Better Homes and Gardens had some wonderful fall wreath ideas.  I adore this unusual "wreath" made from a rake. Who said a wreath must be round? Etsy and Pinterest have an abundance of wreath ideas including several swags to use on your harvest door. Another cute idea from Better Homes and Gardens. It makes me think of  warm apple crisp topped with a dollop of whipped cream!   Yum!  Or how about those wonderfully apple scented candles?  Love those! Monograms are all the rage.  I think this would be a simple wreath to make.  Raise your hand if you like simple projects! Super cu

Thanksgiving Dinnerware to Grace Any Table

Southern Living recently published an article entitled "Turkey Plate Special" chronicling the origins of certain patterns.  Who knew that when Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863, we would end up with beautiful transferware patterns honoring the official bird of Thanksgiving?  I was excited to see my pattern, "His Majesty" by Johnson Brothers in the article.  We lovingly call these our Traveling Turkey Dishes.  Click  here  to find out why! I set our Reading Room   table with His Majesty for a quick peek at this beautiful pattern.  I love my "Traveling Turkey Dishes".  It is a joy to get them out and use them throughout November.  I also love this old table.  It has the scars of a well lived life and reminds me so much of my sweet grandmother who loved it as much as I do. A close up of His Majesty shows the lovely colors of the season.  I don't own the turkey platter, but it is on my wish list! (Replacements) Anot
