Still Woods Farmhouse

It has been a busy week around here.  I have spent loads (Ha! Get it?) of time in my laundry room.  I love to do laundry!  Well, let me rephrase that, I love to wash and dry, but putting the clothes away is not my favorite chore.  I think that having an inviting laundry room helps. Here are a few tips that will make your laundry room a special place in your home. The 4th of July is synonymous with family, friends, food, and fun; however, nature has a way of stepping in and changing some of our plans.  Just as the lawn furniture and cushions were being placed in strategic, shady spots in the yard...just as our 4th of July Olympic games were being prepared, we heard the rumble of thunder.  It has been weeks since we have heard the sound of thunder!  The rain was welcome, but did put a damper on the outdoor events.   As I heard the rumbling, I was reminded that in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul wrote, "In everything give thanks for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Even when all your plans have to be changed and the sky looks bleak, no matter what the situation, we are to give thanks to the Lord.  I recently read a commentary on this verse and the writer stated that thanking God in everything is the essence of Christian living and attitude.  Thankfulness glorifies God and creates within us a heart of ...

Happy 4th of July!  This evening our family will arrive to celebrate Independence Day!  We like any excuse to have fun.  Tonight will be no exception.  The schedule of fun includes, eating (of course), visiting with the out of town relatives and our own Olympic games complete with medals!  Will post more later, but for now, have a safe, fun-filled July 4th!

We built our farmhouse, lovingly called "Still Woods", the year prior to Hurricane Katrina.  It is located off the coast of Mississippi, on approximately nine acres.  We planned this home for several years, often driving out to our property envisioning what was to come. Our home is situated on a dead end road and yes, I am afraid that according to a famous comedian, we "must be a redneck"!  Alas, the directions to the house do include, "and when you get off the paved road, follow the gravel driveway..."!  Don't you just love the crunchy sound of tires on a gravel road?! While we were building our home, I felt the need to give it a name.  Maybe it's a Southern thing! I tried blending family names, to no avail.  I even tried to get family members to come up with something wonderful, maybe even  magical.
